Almost all of the above: I check the Internet, and now, my Vet Assistant course books, and I ask friends, and also put it in on the forums to see if any other cat has this problem, Of course, if it was a serious problem, like when Squeakers hadn't eaten for two days or more, I called the vet, on a Saturday, and was sitting in her office 45 minutes later
Depends what the problem is. Often I check first with the breeder because she is very knowledgeable.
It depends on how serious it seems. If it's not urgent I'll tend to look around the internet, I have a few sites bookmarked as well.
I also have some leftover books from my Animal Health Technology days but the internet tends to be a bit better for being able to plunk in things in a search bar and just go.
If it is urgent or something that worries me I'm usually on the phone with the vet office and if I'm not urgently making an appointment, they can tell me whether or not to come in
I call my daughter who is a certified vet tech. Of course, if it's an emergency, I call my vet or bring my cat to the emergency clinic.
Catster has some great groups which I check out frequently for advice.
It depends on how serious the problem appears. I really consult my own experience of 30 years with cats first. If the problem seems out of my experience, I take her to the vet's and let Dr. Liz diagnose her.
I check with all the above. If it isn't a critical emergency, I'll first check my cat care books. If I need more information, I'll check the internet or Catster. Next I will call the vet during the day or Home Again at night. If it's an emergency, I'll just take my cat to the vet immediately or call ahead and ask how best to stablize the cat until I can get there.
My stepdaughter is a veterinarian in Minnesota, so I make a phone call, or send an e-mail to her office. It's nice to have one in the family, & I trust her completely.
It depends on how urgent it is. If it is not urgent and I don't already know what to do from my own experience, I search online for info and then I email my vet. She will let me know if I need to bring them in to see her or not.
