Lads and lassies, boys and girls, gentlemen and gentle ladies, y'all...

I found out the hard way that a sitter I used for several years has developed an aversion to rawfed. She is a vegetarian and it made her ill to smell. We came home and found my house cats hungry, thirsty (no water in water bowl) and my ferals were VERY hungry. I mean no disrespect to her, she really is a fantastic lady and sitter and what is, is.

Here's my bottom line message.

If you feed rawfed or any variation of raw food to your felines (guess I need to include dogs as well), make sure the sitter can deal with it.

AND I hope this part passes site inspection: After getting over that shock, I swiftly found myself a new sitter. There is a site for professional pet sitters - http://www.petsitters.org.

I sent a request to several and asked if I was out of their range to please refer someone to me. One highly recommended and brilliant sitter replied that I was out of her range but she referred me to the fabulous rawfed friendly sitter that I just contracted with for two different weeks.

Hope this might help someone.

Wow, I'm sorry but the water should have at least been filled up and she should have called you if she was having issues with feeding the food so that you could have told her to get some food that was basically up to your standards, so your cats wouldn't go hungry.

I'm happy your cats were okay and that you were capable of finding a new pet sitter who didn't get sick because of the smell.

We don't eat raw, but Meowma is about to get laid off from her job she's had for 25 years, and she aims to try to pet sit some while attending vet tech school (hopefully an old cat can learn new tricks!) She says that the sitter should have known that she couldn't handle it up front; Meowma thinks a FREE getting to know the pet, food, etc is in order before accepting any sitting job. We find it hard to believe that the pet sitter would not call you, or at minimum give the kitties something even if it was not your preference, even though it would mean lost work in the future, And no water??? I'd have to make sure everyone in town knew not to employ this person.
And by the way, if you are in Northwest GA or Northeast Alabama, Meowma will be available after December 7 to cuddle, excercise, etc any kitties, dogs, horses or assorted creepy crawlies that may need it--and will feed whatever you say, the way you say to do it laugh out loud (I'm not sure I want to share my Meowma, but someone has to pay for mY food!

red facered facered face--Dillon, I just noticed YOU are the poster-- tell your mommy that mine is still available to eat pizza; the new place here is good--holla at us.

You mean she didn't feed them ANYTHING because the meat made her feel ill? I know you said no disrespect, but I do believe that's a crime she could be arrested for! How scary!

BooBoo, good luck with the vet tech school! I'm sorry to hear that you are losing your job - sometimes new adventures don't have happy beginnings. Blessings in disguise - some disguise!

Rumble,

Let me put it like this: I made, bagged and froze food for five days. I calculated and measured it meticulously. I had a bag of TOTW dry for the two that don't like wet stuff, a bunch of cans of Merrcks' and a flowing water fountain. I also left my phone number even as an Emergency Contact. I even called her the first day! We came back home at roughly 2 AM to a hoard of very hungry cats - inside and outside - and two frozen bags of food, way too much wet food unopened and a dry fountain. Huh?

Heretofore, we have always had an excellent relationship and she really is a very nice lady. Maybe I just got on her nerves with my band of merry rogues and this was her way of telling me, "I quit." I dunno.

Whatever.

Dillon, you sound like me getting ready for vacation. laugh out loud Cans for the two Pro Plan addicts, cans for the Evo 95% eater, separate labeled bags of meat for the two rawfeds. Then there's the dog, who is sick: bags of meat, cans of Evo in case he won't eat meat, kibble in case he won't eat anything else, and instructions on how to entice him to eat and the preferred order of foods to offer. Plus a page of instructions for which cats eat which foods in which locations. laugh out loud

Back to topic, so did you give the sitter a good thrashing? big grin We won't tell...
