Rico's having a rough run of health issues. I feel like I need the "Dr. House" of diagnosticians to figure out what's really going on. Background.. he's well controlled ibd kitty. A little more than a week ago, he went off his feed, lethargic and very sick. Turns out he was anemic with a diagnosis of mycoplasma.. a blood parasite that causes anemia. A week of Doxycyline later.. and one chewed/swallowed nightgown string (remember this, it could be important) .. he starts gagging and throwing up as he would eat. He could keep down wet food if I doled it out to him a tiny bit at a time on my finger. But, after two days of that and phone consultations with the vet-- he went in today.. afraid he might have -more- of the string creating and obstruction -OR- irritation/lesions caused by the doxycyline. Anasthesia (which didn't go well, he has a heart murmur and his respiration dropped off the charts) so they could do x-ray and get a look down his throat. No obstruction, but his tummy's full of food and his bowels are full as well. Looks like his digestive system has come to a halt. Aaargh. He's home and we're trying a number of treatments based on a number of hypothesis of what's going on. I'm baffled and very worried about my kitty. oh.. and by the way.. I'm supposed to be driving 8 hours away tomorrow night to pick up my brand new 10 week old Newfoundland puppy! AAAAArrrrgh. Rico may be riding along!

Thanks, Rico's hanging in there. Feisty as ever and yowling like a banshee this morning to get out of the bathroom where he was "banished" last night to keep him from trying to eat anything inappropriate. He must not FEEL bad, because he also put up a rip-roaring fight when I syringed the slurry of his meds in his mouth! -I- know he's a sick kitty, but he apparently disagrees! Still waiting for the appropriate deposit in the litter box, I'm hoping he has a present waiting for me when I get home tonight.
