Bucky here.
As the older brother I have to show Buzz how we can be gracious and congratulate 4 very lucky kitties from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary who will be flying home this Thanksgiving holiday, thanks to Pet Airways. You may have already read in this story: Flying Your Way and there may be more good news yet.
AND what makes this truly remarkable is that Pete is feline leukemia positive, Dora has FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), Pagoda's just a cool cat who has been waiting a loooong time to go home, and Betsyis a kitten who got a rough start...a lot like us, hey we had a lousy kittenhood before we got to Best Friends too!
But we have to be THE BIG MEN and happy for our friends. (Just give me a moment to compose myself....okay, I'm ready).
GIVE A BIG MEOW FOR THESE HOLIDAY TRAVELERS! Meet these lucky felines going on a flyaway.
Pagoda long-time orphan going home!.
Pete. who says FeLeuk cats can't get adopted?
Dora such a silly notion, that FIV should ever stand in the way.
Betsy full of life and love, ready to start her adventure.
Don't worry, Buzz. Our family is out there.....somewhere. I promise little brother, our turn will come. Our friends Lynn, Larry and Kristi will take care of us.

You may have read about how when me and Bucky were in a private appartment (ok it was a kitten tower) while we recovered from dentals that my girlfriend pulled a cat bed off the top of the tower and pushed it over so she could sleep by me.
True story. That's how we were "caught" when our staff came in the morning, me and Snuffles sleeping side by side, touching paws. Bucky was sooooo jealous! He's a handsome guy but he's too shy with the ladies.
Anyway, thought you all would like to meet this beauty. See to see SNUFFLES gorgous green eyes.
Photo does not do her justice, she's way prettier than that!
Now Snuffles is another special needs adoption but I'll tell you what, she's my girlfriend and while it would be really groovy if she and me and Buckster could go home togehter, I can't stand in her way.
Truth is not only does Snuffles keep her fur and that fabulous plumy tail in top shape, she grooms EVERY CAT in Benton's Lobby. Sometimes, I do have to question her loyalty.
But I sure wouldn't object if someone were to adopt the three of us together.

Buzz here:
Since me and the Buck-man are among the 26 special cats being promoted for adoption while Pet Airways is generously offering to fly us home, I thought we should revisit that medical thing that doesn't even bug us very often anymore.
OK so it seems like Bucky NEVER gets the snuffles, I still get congested from time to time and have to get medicine and sit in a nebulizer. But I don't mind, I"m a good patient when it does flare up and everyone seems to think once we are in a stable environment, there may be even less times when I get the sneezles.
So we are asking pretty Dr. Patti for an update on our medical situation. But in the meantime you can read this entry: Dr. Patti on the Snuffleupagus Boyz.
AND WE ARE NOT CONTAGIOUS....no other kitty will get our snuffles. We have been living since July in Benton's Lobby and the first year of our life we lived with even more cats in one of the rooms in Morgaine's Adoptables in Cat World at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
So we don't even really get very much on the radar at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary for our medical needs.
You can also scroll through our diary to see "testimonials" from our buddies for that year that we managed one of the office buildingst at Best Friends on why we are so worth it.

Buzz-boy and me are so excited we are chortling out loud!
Pet Airways, the only airline dedicated to "pawsengers" is offering to fly home kitties adopted from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in time for the holidays.
AND we are highlighted along with our buddy Zeb! And a bunch of other deserving kitties. Although we would like to add a beautiful black satin girl named Eclipse and Buzz's girlfriend Snuggles to the list.
Anyway goal is "26 by the 26th" that is Pet Airways wants to fly 26 kitties home by the 26th of November.

Buzz-boy and me would like to introduce you to a cat at Best Friends who may well be a furry Bill Gates. Yeah, scary smart and a little bit of a nerd.
Click on his name here: Jimmy Cosmo to see this handsome genius.
About Jimmy Cosmo
Sometimes neglect can make you a little cautious ...
Jimmy Cosmo is a deep thinker. You can just sense it when you're around him; there's a lot going on in that mind of his. And maybe that’s why it takes him a little while to warm up to people. But, when he makes friends, he’s an absolute love muffin!
Jimmy came from a shelter in Pahrump, Nevada where things had fallen into disarray, and the animals had become neglected. Best Friends stepped in and helped out all the cats, but some, like Jimmy, were a little jaded from the experience.
When he arrived at Best Friends, Jimmy had feline leukemia, he was badly underweight to the point where you could plainly see his backbone, and his fur was thin and greasy.
Today, he still has feline leukemia, of course, but otherwise, he's pretty healthy. His fur looks great, and he's got plenty of meat on his bones! He just has an eye problem that flares up every once in awhile that requires some drops.
Jimmy lost his best kitty friend in the whole world last year and desperately wants a new human friend to fill the hole in his heart and give him his forever home. He would be fine with one or two other cats who aren’t bossy so if you have another feline leukemia positive cat in your home he’d be okay. Of course, he wouldn’t mind being your one-and-only either!
Oh, and you could also say he's old-fashioned. He doesn't like modern electronics - he'll give telephones and printers a good swatting with his paw to get them to quiet down. And has even been known to slap the stapler once or twice. What a character!
We hope he might be able to continue his reaching out, in a real home .

So me and Buzz-boy got to thinking about our buddy that we are promoting for adoption Zeb you can click on his name in this sentence to see his face.
We should also say that since Zeb was rescued from a feral colony, we think he really would appreciate going home with someone who can give him a cattery with a nice big patch of grass and maybe a bush to lie under.
Zeb told us he really needs to feel fresh air and reconnect with the earth...but in in a safe way so he doesn't ever get lost again.
That was pretty scary.
And that's such a cool name but "Zeb" is short for a whole bunch of names and of course he's too much of a pill to tell us what "Zeb" is short for, so here are our 3 best guess to his full name and the meaning of the name.
Zebadiah: "gift of Jehovah"
Zebedee: "endowed by God"
Zebulon: "dwelling of honor"
Truth is Zeb is just a little arrogant, now we know why. He really does think he's a gift to the world.!
Maybe he is.

This incredibly handsome Maine Coone-type boy is Zeb. Since our publicist is having a devil of time getting hyperlinks to work on Catster, we are giving you the link directly so you can see his face:
http://adoptions.bestfriends.org/Default.aspx?SR=Tr ue&N=4294967272+4294967268&Ne=2&No=39 and just in case it really does work, our publicist is trying to do the link again.
Drumroll please and click on
Zeb.
We REALLY want Zeb to go home. Like pronto. See he was in Niblet's Nest, one of the cat rooms in Benton's at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and the other cats in his room were picking on him. So he became one of the rafter cats 'cause he was so scared.
Our people moved Zeb in with us and our pals in the prestigous lobby and we all thought that would make him feel better.
Only now, guess he really had some pent-up anger and now he has turned into a bully and he's bored, bored, bored.
We know Zeb's heart if really broken. He wants a home where he gets lots of invidual attention and his own famly to play with him.
But man! It's not our fault!
So could you consider Zeb...please?
Here's the description of his personality:
A cat who knows exactly what he's looking for in a home!
Zeb knows exactly what he wants, when he wants it and how he wants it. Petting? That's great --- anywhere, anytime. Petting is really great when getting fed, two great sensations in one! Oh, but don't trouble him when he's sleeping, please. Oh yeah, and he prefers to keep all four fuzzy feet on the ground. But keep loving on him, please!
Zeb is probably so determined and sure of who he is and what he wants because during his life as a stray, he could do exactly as he pleased. He was rescued from a feral site when the building he called home was being demolished. Since coming to Best Friends, he has adjusted pretty well to living a communal lifestyle.
Occasionally, Zeb will get feisty with other cats if they overstep their boundaries. He also doesn't like dogs --- that's completely non-negotiable!
But we asked him, and here's what Zeb definitely wants: A forever home. People who will pet him. People who will pet him while he's eating. Other cats? Maybe --- he may need a formal introduction. No dogs! Lots of love!
Now, really --- is that asking too much?!

We are turning into incredibly elegant gentlemen. It's that time of year that our Maine Coon heritage is on full display. Our ruffs are bigger, our tails are puffier and we just look sooooo good!
Wish we had a mirror in the lobby of Benton's so I could see myself. Guess I just have to take Buzz-boy's word for it. But I can see how he's turning into snow king and I'm the more traditional Maine Cooney boy of the 2 of us, so I'm sure that I'm GQ material!

So Buzz boy and me went on another sleepover wit a volunteer at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Big surprise we were a huge hit. Our friend Laverne and she noted that I had my big, plumy Maine Coony tail in the air in her evaluation. That's cause I liked her and I was trying to impress her...but she already has 8 kitties, so I guess we don't get to have her for a mommy.
Here's what Laverne and her friend John wrote:
"Bucky is easygoing and affectionate; somewhat shyer than Buzz. He liked being petterd and to sit on your lap. He seems ok in the multicat environment (Benton's Lobby in Cat World at Best Friends). He likes being with his brother.
"Bucky made himself at home right away. What a joy to spend time with this sweet, lovey guy. He purrs like crazy and rubs and head butts a lot.
"Buzz is people-oriented, laid back and very sweet. He loves head rubs and being stroked. She doens fine with other cats at Bentons. Likes being with his brother.
"Buzz chirps at you and likes high places. Buzz is a charmer. What a great cat! He is an 'in-your-face' guy. Good ambassador for his brother, Bucky.
"They were good little travelers. Quiet and well-behaved.
"Buzz and Bucky were delightful houseguests.
"We loved them. I would take them home if Ididn't have 8 cats already."

So you know I have this reputation to uphold among the kittehs in Benton's House at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. I'm the host with the most.
Every time my demure brother (Bucky hates it when I call him demure, he says that's a "girl word") and I go on a sleepover, I'm the one who instantly makes sure all the hoomans are comfortable, that they have a nice cup of coffee or adult beverage as we get to know each other and I inspect the place while Bucky does that shy act of his.
Well, on this sleepover I just wasn't feeling my best. You know, Bucky has not had any respiratory problems for well over a year now, but I do get stopped up from time to time and this was one of those times.
But I rose to the occasion and kept people smiling. Angelica wrote:
"Buzz was curious, playful and very friendly. He was exploring, playion the carpet and bed. His breathing became really labored, he still played and ate even though he was stoped up. His breathing improved during the night. He slept part of the night on my bed."
And how did my rotten brother perform?
"Bucky was hiding for the first 2 hours, attentive to loud nosies but then he did a bit of exploring. Once he came out from beind the bed, he was very playful, on the carpet and the bed, and normal eating. He slept on my friend's bed."

Here's what they said about our sleepover when they came to volunteer at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and took us with them for the night.
"Bucky is shy, but friendly. Takes a little time to warm up. Afraid of loud noises. Once he calmed down he purrs when petted. He would lie on the bed. He was very quiet on the car ride over.
"Buzz is more confident than Bucky. He ate as soon as food was put down, drank water, used litterbox, all in the first 30 minutes of being in a new environment. He was very easy to hanle, seemed comfortable and relaxed. Also quiet on the car ride."

"Easy to pick up but prefer to not be held long. Buzz loves to play with Bucky. Bucky loves to play with Buzz.
"They played together all evening, into the night, running and jumping all around.
"Buzz threw up two times last night, wet food, but was fine afterwards."

Well my stinkin' little brother got a girlfriend before I did. She's this gorgeous brown tabby Maine Coon looking girl named Snuffles who is a special needs girl, she has seizures I guess.
Buzz-boy and I had dentals recently and after the doc was done yankin our teeth, our staff put us in a kitten tower for a couple of days so we would only eat wet food and not get into the dry crunchies that our buddies in Benton's Lobby were eating.
So Snuffles has such a big crush on Buzz that she pulled a cat bed off of a shelf and drug it over so she and Buzz could sleep next to each other "holding paws."
Just ask the our human friends who work at Benton's about this.
Well...I'm not jealous. I'm not! I'm not!

Well, so we've had plenty of time to settle in at Benton's House.
We are stars in the lobby of this historic building at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
People are taking bets on how long it will be before we charm our way into someone's heart and get adopted. Bob says it will be before Christmas.
When we first got there I did my reconnaissance and observed everything at a distance. Bucky was all over the place introducing himself.
Now Bucky is acting shy and as the staff says, I earn my name by buzzzing around and getting my nose in everyone's business.
We are going on sleepovers and getting our usual rave reviews.

That's it. I will never again breathe a word about someone showing interest in Buzz and Bucky because that seems to jinx it.
This last person, again, seemed like a great possibility....but application was never sent in and Kristi and her adoption team have to have an application before they can do anything else.
How on earth is it possible that these boys, who are sincerely, just the greatest cats are still waiting for their family?
They love people, get along with other cats, get along with dogs, have had nothing but rave reviews every time they've gone on a sleepover...all I can say is it better because the greatest family ever is in the wings.
Two years these boys have been waiting.

Well....at the risk of jinxing it, a person who has a couple other kitties with chronic respiratory conditions has expressed interest in Buzz and Bucky.
It was SO HARD not having Da Boyz in the office, letting go of them so they could get more exposure in Benton's Lobby showed me how very attached I am to them. But we are all clear my hooligan large brood of cats is not the right environment for these fabulous orange & white boys.
Sometimes you have to love them enough to let them go.
Now if they can just get all the way home, I'll be thrilled.

Buzz here,
We will have to let you know how things go but our publicist and the cat staff thought maybe if we took our star power to Benton's Lobby, the original of the cat buildings at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary it would get us into a home since nothing else has worked so far.
I'm going to miss my dogs.
And we have to see if we can live with a bunch of cats without snotting up again...since that's why we ended up managing the office building Claudette's Castle in the first place. With our chronic respiratory, living with a bunch of cats in one of the cats room meant we were always congested. But this is a smaller bunch.
I hope it works, we've been so healthy and loved....but we don't want to spend the rest of life as office cats, we want to go home.
But we will get to see practically everybody who visits Cat World and they have a good track record of getting special needs cats adopted out of that lobby.
It will take us a few days to adjust and then we'll report back.

"'We love you mewly, mewly dear
Life has no sorrow when you are here
You are our dream family please come near

I was looking over the diary entries for Buzz and Bucky and realized they have been here a year already. I can't believe it.
I can't believe it's this long and still the boyz are not adopted, hogging the bed and looking out their windows.
One of their sleepover pals sent us photos she took and hopefully we will get electronic photo soon for their Catster page. She sent prints and wrote, "I wish my cat were more friendly with other cats – I would have loved to take B&B home with me!"
So now she's chatting the boyz up for us.
I look over their diary entries and am reminded of how absolutely fabulous these cats are.
My home is not right...11 tough ex-street cats and now a new FIV+ tom cat (well now former tom cat) literally broke into the house because he was so tired of being homeless.
So I'm listening to Bucky do his "come play with me" meow and wondering while Buzz sits on the chair next to my desk and looks whistfully out the window.
How many more nights do I have to leave them in an office building knowing they deserve the world at their feet?
Buzz and Bucky's family, where are you?

Bucky here:
Well it's really true..the way to my heart is through my stomach. We had another sleepover and our newest friends Masayo and Toyoko came heaily armed with treats . I was a star, my pushy little brother Buzz was impressed. Here's what they had to say:
"Bucky and Buzz are wonderful. Gentle, affectionate and anyone who adopts them will be happy.
"We were told Bucky would be shy but we found him to be very affectionate. Bucky was just a little shy compared to Buzz but that was only at the beginning. They were equally affectionate.
"Bucky comes when you call. Lets you pet and hold him. He rolls over on his back and purrs loudly. He'd come and sit next to us.
"Buzz was outgoing and playful. He sits on lap, rolls over on his back and purrs. He sniffed everywhere in the cottage (we had different cats on previous sleepovers.
"They both loved looking out the windows, especially watching the wild turkey and her chicks.
"It is so entertaining to Buzz and Bucky play together. Very happy brothers."

Bucky here. Our good friend Mickie is blowing our cover:
Cute and adorable Buzz and Bucky by day, the Suave and Sophisticated Buster Kitten and Bo Cuddley by night.
They have solved many a mystery with the help of their friends Felinious Monk, Mousey Tongue and Donkey Hotey.
Now they turn their superior sleuthing skills to a confusing case close to their own hearts: thrill to the chase, leap to conclusions, follow the tail, unravel the yarn of the Mystery of the Missing Adopter.

Well the buck-toothed cutey rat who charmed everyone was smart enough to get herself into the live trap while we were entertaining guests in one of the cottages at the sanctuary (we will get our sleepover report soon).
No wonder the mouse-sized live trap didn't hold her, she was too big, they had to use a bigger one. Our friend Hal who checks traps took her away to a safe location.
And I let a lizard live today...well, ok, so our publicist physically took the lizard away from me, but hey I hadn't bitten down or nothing.
So guess when we get to go home to a family of our own, they will have to make sure the mousies don't get in our housey, 'cause, boyz will be boyz and catz will be catz and we 2 boyz catz, we be hunters.

Bucky here:
Well the big excitement today is a live pack rat in the building. Mickie said the rat was really cute and smart enough to steal food out of the live traps without getting caught herself.
So...we were banished to room that we can to get to our cattery from while they tried to encourage the rat to leave. And they called our Wildlife Department to see if they could come and rescue the little critter.
Sure would be simpler if the rats and the mice would follow the lead of the chipmunk we met when we first moved in. He was living under the building but thought our cattery was his private patio...he cussed us out but wisely chose to move.
So I'm hoping the pack rat boogies tonight. Bucky and I are going on another sleepover, so this is the rat's chance to leave.

Our publicist keeps saying, that she has to remember to bring in her camera to catch our cute moments. So I'm writing this to remind her...in PUBLIC.
This afternoon there was this big meeting and one of the people at the meeting had the nicest dog hanging out with us. Can't remember that doggie's name but she some sort of pit bull mix...black and as sweet and mellow as they come.
I like dogs who like cats. So we went nose to nose and had a nice sniffing party.
Now Bucky....He just has to do that thing where he arches and challenges the dog. But he doesn't hiss anymore and he never tries to swat. And then he saunters away to another part of the building.

Buzz here.
Our friend Michelle and her husband took us on a sleepover and....big surprise...we were big stars again. And our publicist Barb stumbled on something that may help me come out of my shell faster: treats! She sents us on our sleepover heavily armed with treats and we LOVE treats.
Here's our report card:
BUCKY:
Very loving cat, followed us around in the morning, asking for love and petting. He's relaxed and easy going. He will jump straight into your lap for love.
He was very affectionate with both my husband and me. He was shy at first, for about an hour. Though even when he was shy he allowed us to pet hims while in hiding and then, suddenly seemd to decide everything was ok.
Bucky came out and plyaed with toys, asked for love, was essentially indistinguisable from a normal house cat. He was a pleasure to spend the evening with.
BUZZ:
Extremely social and people-oriented cat. Loves petting all over and loves kisses. He's releaxed and easy going too. Very affectionate and easily handled.
He was frindly with both my husband and me. He was skittish at first in terms of petting, but brave in terms of exploring. He never hid from us.
Early on he found a high spot from which to observe the room and alternatively sat there and roamed around. He settled in after dinner and hung around on our level.
Buzz inhaled his dinner and tried to eat his brother's. He sang at breakfast.

Ellen and Erika write:
These are very beautiful, friendly, affectionate and playful cats.
Buzz is very outgoing. Bucky is more reserved but comes out of his shell with time.
They do not like to be picked up. Love to be petted. Love each other.
They were very curious, climbed up on this things and adapted to new surroundings.
They are wonderful brothers.

One of our most favorite human staff Mickie was not working in this building for awhile and now she's back. We are so excited. Of course we have to make her work for it.
Our publicist Barb told Mickie to not worry because we did the same thing to her when she was working in another buidling for awhile. And it's true.
Hey, we are cats. It doesn't matter they had other things to do. We are the center of the universe, right? And they must pay for their absences.

Sorry. We just have some strong hunting genes.
Pack rat was given a proper burial, I hear.

Well it's been awhile since we've had a testitmonial (scroll down to last fall to see our earlier testimonials) but we have a new pal here, Sue, who we are training to be a cat person (don't tell her, she thinks she only relates to dogs but she's a classy enough person to be around felines).
'
Sue says:
"I’m one of those “dog people” who don’t have much in the way of “cat experience”. But Buzz and Bucky would have none of that!
"From the time I moved into the office, they’ve been so charming and entertaining that I’d have to say I may ONE DAY adopt a cat!
"They’re very easy-going guys, who are happy just to camp out wherever there are people to watch.
"And having cared for them when their primary people are away, I can honestly say 'what special needs?'
"These are two great cats that will be wonderful additions to the right family!"
Oh Sue, you are TOO kind!

We are a diary pick today. How cool is that? So how is our day so far? Well, cloudy & cool and the humans are super busy today. We've had our breakfast and our napping right now. Later today we will be going from desk to desk to inspect work flow and keep everyone on their toes.
But right now. that cat tree with the sleeping box is looking really good to me and Bucky took over Cairo's dog bed.
Good thing Cairo is staying at home with his grandma these days while his mommy Lavanya comes to work at Claudette's Castle....cause Bucky ain't giving it up. Bucky stretches out as big as he can...quite an accomplishment for a cat to totally occupy a big goldie dog's bed, but then Bucky is that talented.
Yup that's what my brother always tell me "I'm so talented."

So we have this dedicated staff here in Claudette's Castle that takes care of us and to help everyone know when we've been fed, had our eyedrops, had our lysine squirt on our food and litterboxes scooped, they put up a chart on the refrigerator.
Anyway, our staff also thinks they are REAL funny. Someone wrote up on our chart: "B Boyz 6, Lizards 0" and that started a whole conversation about our hunting skills and then some other clown started counting up the number of mice we helped meet their maker and wrote up "B Boyz 7, Mousies 0".
Hilarious. Now we have the reputation of being bad boyz, not just B Boyz, now we're bad boyz.
Well, don't think those first 2 mice should count. We were just babie sand we thought they were toys, honest.
And there's been a lizard who survived and was released in an undisclosed (to us) location, so he shouldn't count either...although he was missing part of his tail, I have to admit. Pretty sure Bucky was responsible for that one.
But wouldn't you think by now word had gone down the lizard chain and up the mouse underground railroad to stay away from our castle?
I mean, we're cats. We have a proud hunting heritage. We eat what we kill. Doesn't that count for something?

Buzz finally fessed up why he's such a show off when we go on sleepovers. He said since he's the one who gets sick every few months, he figures he's got to work that much harder to charm a family, because he's going to be the kitty who has to be nebulized from time to time.
And then he had the nerve to say I was embarassing him by playing kind of shy with the folks. Hey! Chicks did a handsome shy guy!
Yeah, and so today I'm ripping it up all over Claudette's Castle, using my "come play with me" meow and where's my stinkin' brother? Snoozing on the office chair by our publicist desk.
Yeah, "non-stop fun" that's Buzz, you betcha!
Guess we're going to have to get a flipcam.

Barb the publicist here:
I have seen a definite pattern emerge. Apparently Buzz loves to go visiting because once again he's the life of the party and Bucky is sweet and loveable, but makes people work for it.
What is very entertaining to me is that it is the complete opposite here at Claudette's Castle. Bucky is ripping it up, greeting visitors to the building, flirting with the girls and generally into everything, mewing for his brother to come join him. Buzz when he's at Claudette's Castle is subdued, almost meditative.
So Buzz asked if he could fill you all in on how it went.
Buzz here:
I love going new places, Bucky not so much, so when we do get to go home for reals, Bucky is probably going to be shy but once he gets comfortable, he'll be the big brother again and take over.
So our newest BFF Carrie and Pat each did an evaluation on one of us.
Carrie on Buzz:
"Non-stop fun! Very sweet & affectionate. Moderately talkative, loves to follow peopel.
"Purrs, exposes belly, love biter. Acted like he owned the place. Exploring, playing, getting into everything."
Pat on Bucky:
"Shy but affectionate when approached. He spent a lot of time in the fancy new dog crate but didn't mind if you joined hime.
"Loved petting. Didn't seek attention but accepted when offered.
"Came out at night on the bed."
"Calm and affectionate but overshadowed by his outgoing brother."

Well, we kind of forgot to say our publicist has moved back into this building. She's not much of a morning person, which means she works later than the rest of the folks, so after all the other humans leave and right before she goes home to her motley meow crew we have our snuggle time.
That's when she lay down on the carpet and we come one at a time and get our seperate snuggle sessions. Buzz is such a good little brother he always let me get my snuggles in first and then it's his turn.
She's says it is just the nicest way to end the day, covered in cats.

as members of the same loving family.
Mark and Katie on the Cat Adoption Team will be happy to talk to you about adoption process for Buzz and Bucky, or any of the other adorable adoptable felines at Best Friends. They office in Morgaine’s in Cat World, can be reached at catadoption@bestfriends.org or (435) 644-2001, ext. 4328.
Call Barbara at 435-689-0200 or email barbara@bestfriends.org to arrange a visit with “The B Boyz” in Claudette’s Castle.
Buzz and Bucky are available to go on sleepovers with visitors to the sanctuary. Contact Cat Adoptions to arrange for a slumber party with them.
Most of the time, Bucky and Buzz are healthy, bright-eyed, playful, funny and affectionate young cats. But they have the same chronic upper respiratory condition. This URI can flair up from time to time.
When it does, they are the best little patients in the whole wide world.

So our publicist has changed up our profile a bit to a.) make the Cat Adoption email more prominent and b.) clarify that Bucky (aka Romeo) and I are only being adopted out together.
See....we were 10 days old when we came to the sanctuary and all we know is life with each other...we were dumped by human. We have the identical special need....that upper respiratory thing that flairs up occasionally and unpredictably. and the kind of treatments we need are the same.
And we really love each other. People who have taken us on sleepovers have even said they saw it when we were hanging out with them , how Bucky and I depend on each other.
Our friends figure the special family that can handle our special needs will be happy to have us both and they are worried that splitting us up would not only break our hearts (and our friends' hearts) but would be stressful enough to make our condition flair up really bad.
And besides, why would you separate color-coordinated brothers?

SIGH. BAD NEWS.
So my ears are completely clean and I've got the A-OK from the medical team at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary but Buzz is still snuffly, so he has another 7 days of nebulizing.
Which means we don't get to go the adoptiong event this weekend and it's going to be that much longer before our family finds us. I could just cry.
GOOD NEWS. Our friends Brian and Jason came over and shot a lot of footage of us and we are going to get our very own video to promote us for adoption!
Now, they were trying so hard to show us with our dog friends Timmy and Napoleon but you know how it is when you ask about of animals to smile for the camera....we didn't do anything. So...you'll just have to take our buddies' word for it that we are ok with dogs.
MORE GOOD NEWS
Dr. Patti says that we CAN live with 1 or 2 other kitties. She said in a stable home environment we can live with other cats....she just doesn't not want us going into a big cat family. So we won't be filming a reality remake of Cheaper by Dozen" in other words.

Weekend of April 30-May 2. PetsMart on Elliot Road in Tempe, Arizona, be there or be square! We are going on a Best Friends mobile adoption event and hope we find our forever family.
OK so Mark on our adoption team checked with the medical staff to see if they think its worth sending us on a mobile adoption event since we have been so healthy for so long ,and everyone, including our publicist, thought this would be good to try since we haven't been adopted yet.
We will be 2 in July....and we've been at the sanctuary since we were 10 days old. ....somebody dumped us here.
When we were kittens, every time Mark and Katie tried to take us on a mobile adoption event, sure enough our eyes would mat up and we'd get snotty.
BUT since we have almost a year now without more than a minor one-day case of snuffles, we're going!
NOW very important. We have to be adopted together and Dr. Patti says it's best that we don't go into a multi-cat family. But we could share our life with a cat-friendly dog or two.

Buzz here.
So we got our report back from our third slumber party and we aced it, again!
Margot, Greta and Michael -- he's age 10 --said we were fabulous.
But I get so annoyed with my brother, Bucky, sometimes! Why does he make new people work for it? In Claudette's Castle he's the rowdy boy and I'm more reserved. But get him with new people and he acts all shy. What an act!
Guess I have better manners and know how to treat company. Hhmph!
Ok...so here's our evaluation:
"These boys are superfriendly and playful. They were shy at first but were moving around the room within an hour.
"Bucky was quiet and liked to be brushed and petted in his bed.
"They both enjoyed brushing and playing and petting. PURR MACHINE.
"Both Buzz and Bucky were friendly with my 10-year old son and they were affectionate with all of us.
"Buzz is vocial, friendly, playful....a joy.
"Bucky was still a little shy but did make an appearance in the evening. Morning was shy time for him again.
"Both cats are definitely ready for a forever home."

If you read our March 27 diary entry (so annoying that we can't link diary entries to each other) you know that Bucky and I ran a workshop on March 28. Pat G gave us the following evaluation:
"Buzz and Bucky were so darling last Saturday! The perfect hosts.
I started with an icebreaker activity - - people introducing themselves telling us certain things that corresponded with certain colors of M&Ms that they had - - the boys were very curious about the M&Ms that we had on the table. They sniffed a bit but luckily decided they didn't want to try them.
"Then Buzz and Bucky sat on laps. Don't remember which one, but one of them stayed on one lap for about 10 minutes, then moved to the next person for awhile, then the next, etc literally making his way around the table. It was very cute.
"Then they disappeared for their naps. When I left at 12:30 we were missing one cat - - again don't remember which, but we were getting a bit nervous - - we were looking all over and Linda brought out the treats thinking the sound would bring the AWOL cat around.
"We were starting to think that maybe he got out when someone had the door open, but then he just wandered out from where ever he had been hiding, wondering what all of the fuss was about."

You know, Stephen King once wrote that cats are the gangsters of the animal world because we like living on the edge.
Today one of our friends brought in her dog who really is not into cats. He minded his mom and she had him under control, but I know he'd like to chase us.
So Buzzboy and I had lots of fun tormenting him. We jumped up on top of high file cabinets and looked down on him.
Poor dog sat on his bed and stressed panted. Too bad he doesn't learn from his brother dog who I really like. That dog and I play a lot and have a good time.
But I have to admit putting the screws to this dog was kind of fun.
So...here's the thing if it's a dog that's nice to cats, we are going to be nice to that dog.
If it's a dog who isn't nice to cats, we are going to make sure that dog is miserable.

Tomorrow is a very important day as we will be overseeing the training of local Best Friends volunteers.
Pat G who is the Uber Volunteer is developing this crack squad of people who live in the vicinity and volunteer at Best Friends Animal Sancatuary on a regular basis.
This A Team will then be working with our visitors who come from all over the country and the world to make sure that each volunteer experience is exceptional.
And so Pat is holding the training in Claudette's Castle where we office. So we will of course make sure people's notebooks are held in place under our furry bottoms, that all pencils are tested for playability and that people take breaks to admire our cuteness.
It's a tough job but somebody's got to do it.

We've all been interested to watch as these boys grow and switch roles of who is outgoing and who is going to be shy. As babies, Bucky was the bold one and Buzz hid behind his bigger brother. When they first came to Claudette's Castle here at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Buzz was the social butterfly and Bucky was more resevered. Well...the boys are reinventing themselves again.
Ted Brewier is a writer at Best Friends and offices in Claudette's Castle. Here's his latest update on Bucky n Buzz:
"Bucky loves to roughhouse, and in fact, solicits it. He’s gotten into the habit of jumping up on a conference table when I walk by and rolling over on his back for me to give him a vigorous scratch on his belly. After a bit, he gets up and scoots across the table, hoping for me to pursue. If I act indifferent, he returns and gives me a playful swipe to engage me.
"Buzzy doesn’t demand attention like Bucky does, but it’s apparent he wants in. He’ll stand at my feet and look up longingly for me to give him the same treatment I’m giving Bucky. The two are hilarious together, with Buzzy the straight man to Bucky’s antics.
"My favorite thing to do with them is shake the treats container while I’m in the kitchen, and see them come barreling towards me from whatever corner they happen to be sleeping in. They usually jump up on the kitchen counter to be at eye level with the treats. And now, if I happen to be just standing in the kitchen, they jump on the counter, expecting you know what.
"When it’s snack time, all bets are off with Buzzy. He forgets his shyness and acts as crazy as Bucky does. "

Ok our newest bestest friends Larry and Beth took us on a sleepover and we got our report...which I think we get an A grade for.
See this link for the story on the Best Friends website about this new program where adoptable cats at the sanctuary get to go spend the night with visitors and potential adopters.
Here's what Beth and Larry had to say about us.
"Sweet boys! They don't care to be picked up, but they both will sit in you lap. Buzz will even jump up in you lap.
"They do love each other. And they even come when called!
"They were a little timid at first. They hung out on the bed and every so often Buzz would come get on the sofa and play. After an hour they were both fine and moving all over the room.
"Bucky and Buzz enjoyed laying on the bed, watching TV, getting petted and playing with us and each other.
"These boys are playful, friendly and fun."
See, other people think we are as cute as we think we are.

You can vote for it, share it, etc. ....or send paw mail and suggest other captions to our publicist...she says she's trying to learn the intriacies of icanhascheezuburger and LOL speak, so input is welcome. Just be kind of kind, okay? She says it's like learning a whole new language.

OK so it's come to this. My brother Buzz has "adopted" a dog named Timmy. Timmy is one of the special needs dogs at Best Friends. He was one of the Hurricane Katrina dogs and the poor boy is still afraid of his own shadow.
So one of our office buddies, Lori, brings Timmy into our building every day for socialization and Buzz just loves to go in the office and sit on a kitty-sized papasun chair and look at Timmy. He tries to tell Timmy it will be ok and he spends hours with that dog and Lori.
Now me, well, I've learned to accept if not embrace the dogs who come in and out of the building and I still don't like an "in-your-face" dog.
But at any rate, our pals in the building decided it was time to say that we could live with dogs as long as the dogs like cats, or we can at least call a truce.

OK OK here's the page for everyone else at Best Friends cause they are our friends after all and we hope they find their families too.

well....see this is why we have learned to stay low key.
We have one person who is considering applying to adopt us. She sounds sweet.
But the other folks, kind of think they are either not ready to add new kitties or it's that longhair thing....anyway haven't heard anything.
That's ok. Shorthair kitties need homes to. We are just SO ready, hard to not get overly anxious.
All the pieces have to fall into place and it has to be right for the person just like it has to be right for us.
BUT WE ARE SO CUTE! WHAT DO WE HAVE TO DO, STAND ON OUR HEADS?
......ooooh. Guess that last part wasn't so low-key, huh?

Oh Mickie! We're blushing!

Our publicist has a great friend in another city that will remain nameless but has the initials LV and she knows this fabulous couple who lost a special needs cat and was considering adopting two...so we are being eyed by them.
Goosebumps...always seems these come in clusters.
I guess one of them prefers short-haired cats...hey listen since I'm the one who is prone to mats, if this family is a fabulous as I hear they are, I would gladly get a lion cut and I think Bucky would look awesome in one too!
The other lady didn't seem to think our long hair was a problem....we just need to be brushed regularly, that's all!

Bucky here;
My brother Buzz is such a goofwad!
Buzz wanted to go into an office where he thought there was food and the people in the office wouldn’t let him through the baby gate.
So he kept falling down, rolling over and getting up, at least 6 times. They finally let him in.
Some people thought it was a tantrum, rolling on the floor til he got what he wanted.
I think it is a trick trying to get food for rewarding a rolling over trick....that's what you get for hanging around dogs, Buzz!

Best Friends Animal Society has started to let the kittehs go on SLEEPOVERS. just like they do the dogs....it's a really sneaky way to get people to fall in love and take dogs home, and now fun for felines too.
So we went on our first sleepover and dang it! They already had lots of kitties, or we would be home by now.
Here's what our new BFFs Victor and May (who took us on the sleepover) had to say:
General Temperament: Buzz—playful, sweet, friendly, excited. Bucky—Shy and very sweet, will come sit on lap
Handling: Both like petting on head, chin; don’t like being picked up, but will tolerate; like to sit on lap; like to cuddle up
Behavior in room and additional comments: As soon as we got to the room, Buzz was very excited and explored entire hotel room with tail wagging. Bucky hid under the bed but did come out after about an hour and a half. He came out to explore then went back under the bed, etc. (Buzz went checking on him under the bed periodically).
After they became comfortable they both played, ate, sat on lap, cuddled and slept with us in the bed ½ the night. The other half they apparently played with toys from the overnight bag which they helped themselves to.
They are both so sweet and delightful, we had a hard time bringing them back. We probably would have kept them if it weren’t for our journey across the country ahead of us, and other cats at home."

....never let us go.
Bucky: I love to be held like a baby so I can reach up with my soft paw and pull your face towards me for kisses.
Buzz: Took awhile to get comfortable with the "baby pose" but now I like, especially if you a zipper or jewelry I can play with.

Well our publicist Barb dropped by today and she ratted us out, especially me. She showed our new staff member, Sue, how many mats we can hide in our luxuriant winter Maine Coonish coats and then Barb proceeded to work them out of our coats.
It was kind of ouchy but everytime she'd work out a mat, I'd yell and run away...and then realize I felt better. So I'd come back for more.
Now Bucky...dang his fur just doesn't mat like mine does! He's silky dang it, I'm fine-furred.
So he only had a few small mats in his ruff. I still have a doozy on my side but our publicist Barb said enough's enough, that's for another grooming session.
So Sue, who's really a dog person (until we seduce her, of course) learned how to brush us and said that sounded like fun. She's going to brush us every weekday now and our publicist said she'd be back more to help out too.
And Barb and Sue both brushed us, so all in all we are looking much better.
And just like our eyedrops, we act like we don't like it, but we really do.

Well it turns out that there really wasn't anything wrong with our meows and in-mewzinashuns was to keep us in top shape. Buzz has a flair for the dramatic, I'm afraid.
Our friend Mickie was bummed because she was hoping that meant we had been adopted and were getting ready to go home. Nope, just keeping all the cats at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary healthy, that's all.
Mickie wanted to pass this on about us too:
"Buzz so loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooves to be brushed, he is all over that like a duck on a june bug. Bucky not. And I have no idea where he learned that language :-).
"Both boys took their shots like wonderful brave mens, although a dog was barking during Bucky’s turn, which could have been why he ran away from them. But Buzz came right up and then went up to the bag after because he thought they had treats. So they both got fish treats."

I like to think cats have discriminating tastebuds but you can't always believe the propaganda.
Much to my embarrassment my brother Bucky seems to think textiles are a food group.
Our officemate Melissa had some sweater on that Bucky just loved-he was laying sideways on her desk, holding her arm and chewing on it.
Melissa said it was "funny and charming."
Hah hah. My brother has a sweater fetish. Sheeesh!

Bucky the Elegant here:
We are smaller than Maine Coon cats normally are but then we didn't have the best babyhood in the world before we got to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
We came out of situation where somebody had more cats than they could take care of ( probably why we get the sneezles althought it's been A LONG TIME since we've had a proper icky day, so maybe we are outgrowing it.)
Anyway, as the weather is getting colder our magnificent ruffs are coming and even Buzz-boy is starting to look regal. And our friend Aileen says we look like minature Maine Coons because of our head shape and our coats and our temperament.
So our publicist added that as our secondary breed. She said it doesn't matter what you call us besides The Best Cats Ever.

At least that's what our publicist says. She stopped by for a visit today and said we are happy, shiny furpeople.
OH...this is Buzz by the way. Bucky's too busy looking like Romeo to type. He does this tender-hearted look and "hides" where he can peek at the ladies and they fall for it every time. Yeah, he's a regular Valentino, that one.
But I have the open and out-going personality that just sucks people in. And hey....I'm good-looking too. Just ask anyone!
Our friend Mickie got our publicist all caught up on our latest and we have new staff at our beck and call. An old friend of ours "Big Mike" comes and takes care of us on the weekends now and he's very pleased with how handsome we are.
We have a new favorite treat: freeze-dried whitefish. OMG. It's crunchy and light and smelly. It's popcorn for cats!
So, we're doing ok with all the changes. Even putting up with noisy, smelly, suck-up dogs who are in the office now. I mean, I think they are funny and I like watching them, but COME ON, dogs have no dignity! They just roll over for anyone.
Well, that's enough for now. I guess we aren't making it home for Thanksgiving.

I'm the one who is the observer. BuzzBoy is always so quick to meet people and say hi. I like to watch and see if people come to me gently and then I can be a huge lovebug.
Well, our publicist tells us the only sure thing in life is change and that things always turn out for the best. She said, "see they put some people in the building who like cats, you'll be ok and remember, your family is out there, they just don't know about you yet."
So I do have to admit the new people are nice.
And maybe if everyone can just let me take my time, I can learn to like dogs. Buzz says he really wouldn't mind living with a dog who is nonchalant, that he could follow around. Dog still scare me a little.

Bucky,
Now there are all sorts of people moving in that we don't know and they are bringing dogs. There's dogs in the office that has our access to the cattery. So we hang out with our friend Mickie. Buzz kind of thinks dogs are cool....I'm not so sure and I'm just not taking a chance.
I know our publicist always liked it when dogs came in the building because then we got more used to them. She said it was good for us to get used to dogs. Yeah, right.

Well, Buzz here.
I'm usually the boisterous guy but I'm really, really sad. Our publicist told us that she is not going to get to be in our office building anymore and she's having to get us new assistants.
We don't want new assistants. We want to go home!
She's gone home and here we are in this lonely office building by ourselves with just the night light.
The holidays are coming up and Bucky and I are really hoping we get to celebrate with our family.
We've been waiting our WHOLE LIVES. We want a last name, we want to be with our very own family who will never, ever leave us.
Don't we deserve to be home for the holidays?

So on second try, I found the Cheerios lacking in complexity of flavor. We don't get treats here usually and so I reallly need something that's interesting. But Pam gets a big E for Effort on pleasing the bosses.

Bucky here.
Well, I just discovered a new taste treat. Our newest staff member, Pam, was having a mid-morning cereal snack. I'll say this for her, she knows enough to suck up to the CPOs (Chief Purring Officers)!
So when she saw me eyeing her Cheerios, she offered me one. Wanting to make sure Pam felt welcome in the building, I sniffed it and it smelled yummy. So being hospitable, I tasted it and it was good! Really good, actually. So I indicated I would be willing to accept another one.
I don't want to say that I begged because that just is so dog-like and unbecoming of a CPO. But I indicated my pleasure and that produced another couple of Cheerio tidbits.
What a nice way to start the day!

We are just SO handsome. My goodness, I really didn't realize it until you see our photo blown up on p. 47 in the Special Adoptions section of Best Friends magazine. We're in the November/December issue.
That's me in front showing off my white ruff and engaging expression. Bucky behind me is trying for the demur look....oh he fools people so!
Here's what they say about us and the one thing they don't make clear is WE ARE BROTHERS! I'm not going anywhere without my bro' and Bucky says the same thing.
"Cuddly and playful! All their littermates were adopted, but these two were left behind. How come? Well, Buzz and Bucky have special needs. They both have a chronic upper-respiratory problem that requires a little TLC: medicine and eye drops. And while they may outgrow it with age, there's no guaranee. But they're wonderful boys! Danlge a piece of string in fron g of them, and they'll entertain you for hours. Buzz likes to perch on your shoulder and Bucky enjoys cuddling in your lap. These adorable gusy ahve a deep friendship, so they are hoping somebody will adopt them both. Only about a year old, They would be such sweet, funny, squooshy additions to your home."
Bucky here:
What we really want is to be the Starz in a family's eye. So while we know other pets dig the Brady Bunch scene, to tell you the truth, it's really not for us. We kept getting sick in the big cat rooms and just look how clear-eyed and clean nose we look in our photo at the top of our Catster page...and it's the same photo in the Best Friends magazine. That's how everyone knows we'd do better as the only pets, or with just one or two more.
Oh....and we really do love a catio (screened-in porch or deck we could share with our family) and/or a cattery (screened-in area just for us). Our photo was taken on our window ledge in our cattery. ...but we can do just fine as indoor only too. We spend lots of time inside playing with our staff.

Hi, this is Barb, who manages this Catster page handles all public appearances for Buzz and Bucky aka Bucky n Buzz aka the GREATEST CATS EVER!
If you are a member of Best Friends Animal Society, look for their photo in the Special Adoptions section of this issue of the magazine. If you aren't, well actually it's the same photo at the top of theis Catster page ,and you have the added attraction of their other photos and the diary entries.
So here's what I have to say about these boys. If I didn't already have 12 cats at home, I'd snap them up in a second. I LOVE THEM.
They are friendly, funny, affectionate and feisty. Buzz is the "in-your-face cat" and Bucky is the one who makes you work for it, he wants lots of love, but on his terms. Buzz is the "water-off-the back-of a-duck" cat and Bucky is the sensitive artiste.
Buzz and Bucky really need to be in a home where they don't have to deal with a whole bunch of other cats. Dr. Patti said that in the multi-cat environment at the sanctuar's cat rooms, anytime any kitty had a sneeze, Buzz and Bucky were sure to get it in spades.
Here in their office building they have enjoyed great health since the end of June without anything more than an occasional stuffy nose and it always clears up quickly. Dr. Patti says there is a chance they will outgrow their condition but whoever adopts them has to love them as they are right now.
And so far, based on the cat-friendly dogs who have visited the building, Buzz seems to think nice dogs are a cool toy. Bucky is leery of them and probably would take a long time to warm up to a dog...he just runs off, doesn't hiss and spit, so it might not be an issue.
Ideally, we'd like to see them in a home where they are the only pets, or there is only one or two other animals. And a calm household where things stay on a pretty even keel.
And it's been an eye-opener. Around here at Best Friends, so many of us have special needs animals that the idea of Buzz and Bucky being considered special needs is almost laughable, because their needs are so simple.
All these cuties need is eyedrops every day and a squirt of lysine paste in their food. They turn the eyedrops into a "catch-me, catch-me" game and once they are "caught" they purr and are good about their medicine.
So what's the big deal? Well, here's the eyeopener. For the rest of the world, where people are used to cats without any special needs, eyedrops is a big deal.
I had one lovely lady who would have been perfect for these boys decide against applying to adopt them because she wasn't sure she could find a pet sitter who would be able to give them eyedrops. It kind of took me back.
We're in a bubble here in Kanab, Utah, where every third person can pet sit and do any kind of medicine, fluids, subcutaneous fluids, etc. Most of us would not consider eyedrops any big whoop.
But we have any unusually high concentration of "animal people" and that is not reality elsewhere. But in almost any town there will be at least one or two petsitters who are comfortable with giving meds and good at it. And I promise, it's not hard to learn how to give kitties eyedrops, especially these lovebugs.
So, yes, Bucky n Buzz are special needs adoption. But MAN ARE THEY WORTH IT.

Here is how I have interacted with the two playful kitties while up at Claudette’s for the last 3 months.
Usually I come into work at my desk and one or the other of them is at the front door to greet me and I usually spend a few minutes saying hi and petting them. Buzz has been the most interactive with me and will come and hop up on the back of my chair/shoulders and cuddle. I usually take some time then to spend with Buzz.
I dsee Mickie spending lots of time with them. She always has one on her lap and playing with the other. On numerous occasions I think that there are other people out there the way she talks with them.
There certainly is never a time here that I see where they aren’t just having some “cat” time and taking “cat” naps or someone is saying hi or playing with them.

Buzzy is the guy who spends some time with me every day. He often hops up into my lap while I am typing and wants some attention.
Bucky likes to charge you when you are with him on ground level. He always comes brazenly up to you, but is a bit reticent about being picked up and/or petted. He likes this on his own terms.
What a difference from when they first came here! Both of them looked sickly, especially Bucky who I’m sure couldn’t see out of both eyes. Within a week they looked better and as most people observe when they see the two of them, they look much improved.
Lots of people interact with these cats in the course of a day. Seems to be plenty of affection and attention to go around. They seem to be happy, healthy guys.

I don’t spend that much time up at Claudette’s Castle, but when I am up there, I am delighted to see how everyone dotes on them. Mickie has developed a whole universe around them and can frequently be seen with Bucky in her arms typing with one hand.
Both the boys fly around playing with whatever is at hand. I’ve noticed some days where they’re congested and others when they’re just fine. Elissa, Barb and John in particular seem to have bonded with both, aside from Mickie.
They boys have sat in on a couple of meetings when I have been up there. They are feline to be sure. Some days more gregarious than other.
Overall, I’d say that it is a measure of their healthy emotional growth that they have such full and complex personalities, something I am sure that a real cat lover will appreciate and find irresistible

As the occupant of the spot where they most like to hang out in the late afternoon (I have the sunniest spot for that time of day), I get my daily fill of cat, and we all enjoy the warmth together.
Of course, they make it difficult to get much work done, because I can’t help but scratch them.
I’m also learning to adapt to the Buzzer having a lie-down on my keyboard. So far, no success at training him to do my work for me. But I will keep all appraised of any and all progress I make.
We’re having a good time with the cat bros over here in Claudette’s Castle.

As I write this, Buzz is sleeping on the chair next to me, and Bucky is sleeping between the wall and my desk.
Due to personal circumstances, I come into work early every morning. They are at the door greeting me. I feed them their breakfast, and go back to my desk.
After they finish eating, they come over and we have snuggle and play time for almost 45 minutes. Around then, other people come into the building and the cats go and greet them and make the rounds.
Around 9.30 they help the Mouse Man go about checking the traps and getting under his feet. Around midmorning they are tired and often come back to my area for naps.
If I get up Bucky will sleep in my chair. I often have one of them in my lap as I work. They are very loving and very friendly and I know that they are eminently adoptable.
The family that gets them will be very lucky. Again, due to personal circumstances, I am here late every day. At the end of my shift we have another snuggle time…they are usually tired and not so playful then.
They are bright, curious and highly intelligent cats with their noses into everybody’s business.

Elissa (who oversees the Guardian Angel program and is special project manager for the National Geographic Channel show Dogtown).
My desk is Buzz and Bucky’s launch pad to their cattery so I see them several times a day. They often seek out the company of their people – including me and spend time in the cat bed next to my feet or the scratching post next to my desk. They often greet people as they come in the door and love to pounce on your feet as you walk past them.
When the National Geographic crew was here (they just left a few days ago) Buzz would often climb in their laps and hug them or jump on their shoulders and Bucky loved to play on the floor among their bags and equipment.
Both boys act happy, playful and well socialized. They definitely get lots of interaction and attention each day. I have noticed a huge improvement in their sociabililty from when they first arrived in our building.

Notes from Shelley who comes to Claudette's Castle for meetings. She circulation manager for Best Friends magazine{
"These two kids are a bundle of joy! Last time I was at Claudette’s– home of the fluff balls, I arrived early for a meeting and sat down to wait.
"Zooom went the first kitty – and zoom went the second. Now I am one of those people who love the sound of thundering paws racing down a hallway, so I was wearing a big smile by the time the orange blurrs sped past.
"Once they were gone, however, they seemed to put on the skids, as if to say - “who was that?”
"Sliding across the rug, they turned in a fast spin and high tailed it back to me.
"I sat down on the floor as they pranced, dropped and rolled.
"I’m not sure which one it was, but one of the B’s purred mightily as he pulled himself closer for a pet.
"The other B accepted a few pets then as if being called – ran off in the direction of the food bowl.
"I sat there rubbing the tummy, back, head and chin of the remaining muffin and he hopped up and then rolled in a circle around me.
"What can I say except I was absolutely delighted or better yet – charmed.
"I kept thinking of as I walked into my meeting, 'these two need to be in a home – so their family can be just as delighted as me.'"

Bucky here.
So for those of you who have been reading our diary, you know that we are the CPOs (Chief Purring Officers) overseeing Claudette's Castle at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Man, what a lot of work!
We are responsible for the departments of: Public Relations and Guardian Angel and Development.
And in addition we provide technical assistance to the film crew from National Geographic Channel when they are here to create new episodes of Dogtown and
Critique one resident writer for Best Friends magazine and the Best Friends Animal website.
AND we just added another staff member who is in charge of workshops for our Animal Care Department.
So....we are going to do a series of testimonials from our staff on why we are the coolest cats ever.
Stay tuned for these entries and we added a couple of photos of Buzz...he's such a ham, "hard at work!"

Buzz here:
So we got ANOTHER photo shoot and we're going to be featured in Best Friends magazine and they'll be telling all the members why we are the best little boyz ever and why they'd be silly to not take us home.
Look at the bottom two photos in our photo gallery. Don't we look hot????
And the 2 above that show our playful side. And the original photos are our baby photos.
So add the lovely and talented Sarah Ause to our list of photographers. That's in addition to the ruggedly handsome Gary Kalpakoff and the elegantly artistic Molly Wald.
Hey! We need those photos to keep coming, of course we're sucking up!

We have our very own "furstyle" (pun on freestyle, get it??) wrestling tournaments here at Claudette's Castle. Our human staff just love it when we boyz roll out the mat and go to town.
And boy do we love an audience for these matches! Now, we add elements of kick boxing into this too but we usually start out with both of us sitting up on our back legs and then grab each other with our front paws and then
KERPLUNK! we are down on our side and going for the pin. Our publicist said she's going to try and figure out how to get some video because she said it's pretty funny.

So one of them furtographers came and did some updated photo us (see the bottom of our photo gallery) last two. His name is Gary Kalpakoff.
And our publicist thought some folks might not realize we were beggin for treats in the photo where I'm showing off my teeth. And she is STILL trying to get the hang of LOL speak, so take a look at for our LOL "Eyez dance fur dinneh" and let her know if she missed the mark or if it's funny.

Bucky here.
Our friend Mickie says we are just the perfect cats because when we play we are pretty rowdy and then when we are through roughhousing, we are ready to cuddle.
So she calls us The Hugging Hooligans.
Buzz-boy's nose has been kind of snuffly late but it cleared up today and never did get too serious.
Me, I'm totally perfect, clear eyes and clean noise.
Buzz said he's perfect too, even with the sneezles.

Just feeling a little sad tonight. Mommy? Daddy? Where is our family? When are they coming to get us? All our human friends say we are the best cats ever! Doesn't that mean we get to go home?

Bucky here.
I have developed an absolutley endearing technique for getting humans to play with me.
I run out into the big room in the office building and start a very special high "mew mew mew???" and when someone comes to find me, I bounce off to start a game of "Catch me, catch me."
And my funny little brother, Buzz, knows it's time to play when I call too.
But I just love seeing a human reach out to pet me....N I'm gone! Miss me!

Buzz here:
We have lots of folks who took care of us when were in the big room with all those kitty roommates and they really loved us lots.
What's not to love?
Anyway, our friends are popping from time to time at our office to see us and everyone raves about how good we look. One lady even came armed with combs because she remembered we would get mats and she was amazed that we aren't matting....of course it's the summer and we don't have all that winter fur.
But anyhoo.....if there was any doubt that we do better in a quieter environment, that's pretty much over.
Now, Dr. Patti keeps cautioning everyone that we may have a "flair-up" but so far, so good. No boogers in the nose or eyes for a long time now.
Our publicist thinks that with our executive training we've received here in the PR/Development/Guardian Angel/Nat Geo Channel office building that we could run a meditation center.
I guess that'd be ok....as long as we got to curl up at night with our people and snuggle on the couch and bed.

Bucky here.
SO i'm the lady's man and Buzz Boy is the guy's guy but honestly, we love anyone who will play with us and sit with us.
Buzz loves to hang out with the guys in our office, he just sits close by and waits for them to share sports stories.
Me, I work on looking super cuddly and waiting for someone to pick me up and hold me in their lap. That's usually the dames. I think my half-mustache really helps!
Well that's how we are in the middle of the day, that's our quiet time.
But those last couple of hours before sunset when the wildlife starts cruising around outside our windows we start wanting to play.
The real bummer is when we are ready to party, our office mates are heading out the door, going home.
Hey....we'd be so much fun to come home too!
Where's our family?

You may have read earlie about our unfortunate mice incidence....and now our publicist has turned it into a LOL.
SHEESH!
But apparently the first time we put up LOL, we didn't have right language, so our buddy Courtney spiffed it up for us.
Please look at this link for our LOL and if you like you can vote for us or make comments or share!
So let us tell you the story behind our LOL photo.
Well, see, we have this cattery and since Best Friends Animal Sanctuarysits on all these high-canyon country acres and we have juniper and pinyon trees....there's a lot of rodent type.
And, and, well, see the chipmunk, he got smart and just left but these dumb mice...and it really was their fault.
No smart mouse comes in a building with kittehs, right?
So, anyway, these 2 mice come up through the floor vents at night and we thought maybe our staff had lefts us a couple of robot toys.
Yeah! That's it, we thought they were toys! So we start playing, right? But the mice got broke.
And we kind of ate them.
But we left some guts and stuff and first guy in, he's really sad, cause I guess we were supposed to let the mice go in the live trap so they could be released outdoors.
Stupid mice! It's not our fault! We thought they were toys. Honest!

Dr. Patti (Best Friends Animal Sanctuary veterinarian) says:
"Their issues are recurrent upper respiratory signs mostly congestion/sneezing and ocular discharge/conjunctivitis.
"These cats may outgrow some of these signs as they age. But a prospective family would have to accept if not definitely -- at least the chance -- for chronic upper respiratory disease.
"Flair ups will occur with stress such as a move, new household addition or other illness.
"They are WONDERFUL cats but at have a pretty likely chance thatsigns may continue (intermittently) for life. Their family would need to be committed time-wise and financially to take these cats to the vet as needed.
"In my opinion, cats like this will do better in a home WITHOUT a lot of other cats. Definitely better than in the multicat situation here (at the sanctuary)."

We have tested all of the cat toys our human staff has brought us and in the finaly analysis....nothing beats a bit of ribbon, or a long shoe lace, or a long hank of yarn.
We can make up all sorts of games.
Now today is one of those sleepy days for us. We have those sometimes. It's overcast and quiet. Our publicist came in to give us our food and eye drops and lysine paste. She tried to entertain us but all we want to do is snooze the day away.
We are busy dreaming about our furever family. We'd love people who meditate and play soft music all the time. But we'd liekthem to have lots of string too so when we are ready to play we can have fun with our humans.

oooooh, gotta boogie all night long...
Hey there, excuse us, we need to prop our eyes open long enough to type this. We're taking turns napping and typing here.
So we are settling in nicely and our routine is to stay awake long enough to get our morning eyedrops and squire of lysine paste (that is a lot of fun, we've turned it into a "catch me-catch me" game and once our publicist gets us on her lap, then we just purr and purr and we are good about our medicine.
Then we get yummy canned cat food and spend most of the rest of the day snoozing, with occasional breaks getting up and checking on the people to make sure they take a playtime away from the computer. Hey it's a tough job but someone's got to do it and we are naturals for playtime!
And then, come about 5:30 p.m. we are ready to rock n roll. We cruise the buidling, look for cool things to do, make sure that pesky chipmunk doesn't move back into our cattery and generally just party the night away.
So, we will be excellent in a home where people work during the day and want to hang out with lovable kittehs at night!

Buzz here:
Sheeesh my brother! He spends all day while the people are here snoozing in his bed and then when they pay attention to him, he comes out of his bed slow like and crawls in their lap and is the snuggly bunny and "the good kitty."
Me, I'm out and about in the morning trying to supervise and make sure people are on the job. I don't know why they make that noise when I jump on their shoulders with my claws out.
Part of a productive work day is stopping and playing with the cat, right? Step away from the computer and play, I say!
Yeah....and there's usally only 1 person here at 6 p.m. who witnesses Bucky exploring the buidling.
So everyone thinks I'm the rowdy one!
No fair! Yeah! and guess who's idea it was to play with the mice?

Well here's the deal. Our Dr. Patti said she thought we wouldn't get the sneezles and gunky eyes so much if we were in a quieter environment.
So our publicist set about finding us a place where we get spoiled but don't have any other cats to deal with and not nearly as many people. We are now managing an office building at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and officing in the Public Relations fucntion and the Guardian Angel office....which cool program that showcases some of the special needs animals at Best Friends...we'll promo them even though they didn't pick us. (The Guardian Angel folks said our "special needs" were so minimal that it didn't quite meet the threshold of a dog who won't drink water or cat who was set on fire and survived.)
Our "special needs" is eye drops twice a day, lysine paste once a day and a shot once a week that helps us fight off the bugs that gives us the snuffley sneezles and eye goop.
Oh, what was that a fly?....Ooops let me get back to the point.
So we don't see as many people but we sure are getting spoiled by the ones who are here. And we like it lots. At the end of the day when the folks go home, we like to go into our cattery and talk to the wildlife.
We did have to boot a chipmunk out of our cattery, he was trying to take over and chittering at us. Guess he thought he could have the place but we told him he's wildlife and he should go be wild. We get the safe cattery so we can get fresh air and sand on our toes without any danger of getting lost.
And I was feeling kind of icky when we first came, had the sneezles but they are gone now and I love being able to take naps without 10 other cats running over my head.
And as much as I loved the visitors to the sanctuary, I'm really kind of reserved, I like having time to decide when I crawl into someone's lap and in the cat rooms, there's so many social butterflies, if you aren't pushy you don't get lap time.
Buzz is teaching the people in our office to play fetch with him. He didn't have the sneezles when we came and he just ripping it up.
Our eyes are clear and Buzz isn't snuffling at all. I still have a stopped up noise but I'm getting caught up on my sleep and boy, I am starting to really love lap time.

OK so this new short lady we don't know so well seems to know all about us.
We heard her asking about our medicines and whether we would have a better chance of not getting flair-ups if we were office kitties instead of living with a bunch of roommates.
And she said the point would be to help us get adopted.
She said she's been writing about us for a catster.
Is that related to a hamster? I heard one of the tiny visitors with a high voice say they had a pet hamster....I guess it's furry. Is a catster furry?

Buzz and I would like to introduce you to another good looking long-haired boy. He's an international cat about town named Raed and he comes from Lebanon!
Raed is looking for a home of his own, and like us, he really needs to be in a home without other animals and low-stress. But man, I guess we can call him our friend, even though Raed won't be in the same room with us at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
See Raed and about 250 other cats were rescued off the streets of Lebanon and then their shelter was bombed, so they were all crammed in an apartment until they were flown over to Best Friends.
I think that experience soured Raed on other cats....too many, can't ever get any privacy, not enough room in the glass for everyone's toothbrush, having to roll up your sleeping bag every morning -- you get the idea.
So anyway, if you happen to know anyone who is a one cat at a time type, please introduce them to Raed, because he is really done with not having a last name, his own window to look out of, his own couch to watch TV on, and his own people to sleep with.
Come to think of it, so are me and Buzz-boy.

OK, Bucky here.
So we really are liking people lots and lots.
Pets are pleasant. Give us boys some toys and we'll tumble for you.
I used to be known as the braver one but now Buzz is running up to folks when they enter our at the sanctuary too.
When we have to have our medicines, then we can still get real shy. I sure hope Dr. Patti is right and that we may outgrow this stuff.
But she tells me there is no reason that Buzz and I have to spend the rest of our life at the sanctuary....even though the folks here treat us good.
Dr. Patti says we can go home and we just need a family that will love Buzz and me just like we are.
And give us medicine if need it. YUCK on that but we'd put up with it just to have a last name and a family of our own.
OK, MOM? DAD? Where are you?
Email Cat Adoption team at Katie on the Best Friends Cat Adoption Team and tell her you saw us on Catster.
OK, so the html coding didn't work. So it's all lower case and it's katied@bestfriends.org. Katie's really nice BTW.

Hi, Buzz here. I'm the one with the manners.
We'd like to introduce you to the talented young woman who took our publicity shots for us. Her name is Molly Wald and she has a real knack for capturing an adoptable pet's personality. Of look at her Peru set...just amazing.

It can be a bit much when you are surrounded by adoring fans. They want to touch you and brush your hair and say gushy things. SHEESH.
Hi, I'm Bucky, the cuter one with the mustache, and I'm the braver of us Red Neck boys. (We didn't get that nickname because of our love of wallets on chains, it just 'cause, well, you know, we're red and we have the names of Buzz and Bucky.)
We are here at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary near Kanab, Utah and lots of groovy folks come to visit and volunteer.
We don't want to be seen as easy. You have to spend a little time around us before we will let you pick us up.
We may be red necks but we really aren't not into the speedway or honky tonks. We'd really thrive on a life with someone who appreciates the simple things in life, like sitting down with a couple of cool cats and reading a book.
