Arrival Story: I had been thinking about adopting another kitty for quite awhile. I thought that Sally would enjoy having a kitty sister to play with and I felt like I was ready to bring another baby home : )
One day (1/18/02) after doing some work in central Phoenix I realized that I was only about a mile from the Phoenix Humane Society where I had adopted Sophie. I decided I would just stop by and take a peek at their kitties. I had been thinking about adopting a gray male kitty but you know how that goes! I saw Lucy (appx. 3 months old) and she saw me. She just kept talking to me. Making eye contact with me and chattering at me! She also kept reaching through the cage towards me with her paw. I had to bring her home.
Bio: Lucy has severe food and environmental allergies and immune system problems. She frequently has ear infections, skin lesions, and tummy problems. Over the past 4 years, she has spent months in an e-collar due to skin problems. Poor kitty!
She is allergic to all dry cat food and most wet foods, too. She is also allergic to nearly all kitty treats. She is currently on a medication called Atopica/Cyclosporine to suppress her immune system and is having positive results.

My little brother Charlie tagged me (well, I tagged him actually! with my paw!) to play A Day in the Life tag. Here's a day in MY life!
Morning:
I like to snooze in the cat tree by the big window in Mommy's bedroom. When Mommy's alarm goes off, that's where you will find me. It's also the best spot in the house for bird and pigeon-watching! When Mommy wakes up, she whistles a special song to me and I leap from the cat tree to the bed and give her good morning head bonks.
I'm not interested in the showering and dressing rituals of humans so as Mommy gets ready for work, I go downstairs to hang out with Sophie. Mommy comes downstairs and feeds the kittens and Sophie. I like to wait in the sunny spot in my Morgan's Bed in the window seat; I wait until the kittens are done (too crowded!) and then go eat my yummy food.
I go back to the window seat kitty bed to watch Mommy walk out the door. Mommy always says, "Bye girls! Bye boys! I love you and I'll see you sooner than later!" Every morning, without fail!
Afternoon:
I spend the day sleeping in the window seat and on the guest bed. Those are the best sunny spots in the house. I try to avoid the kittens but sometimes Charlie chases me up and down the stairs. When my kitty sister Sally was alive, it used to be ME chasing Sally up and down the stairs! But now the tables have turned.
Late Afternoon and Evening:
I greet Mommy at the front door. Sometimes she leaves the door open and only closes the screen. I stay by the door sniffing and checking the world out. Mommy feeds us and she brings my food to the stairs. I like to eat there!
I hang out with Mommy, Sophie, and the kittens. I groom Sophie every evening. I wrestle with Leo and Charlie and I play with Mommy and the cat dancer or feather wand. Sometimes I play fetch or play with my tent and turbo track. Leo and I play chase. Charlie joins in and chases me too much. I usually growl, hiss, and smack him to let him know we are done with chase.
I like to curl up next to Mommy and her laptop while we visit Catsterland. I'm not a lapcat but I like to get pets and loving. Sometimes I try to groom Mommy's hair and bonk her head. I usually seek out Leo and give him a good bath. He always tries to turn it into a wrestling match but I'm training him to lay still and enjoy my spectacular grooming skills! Sometimes I give Charlie a few licks if he's calm and not too crazy.
I usually go upstairs to bed first. I like to sleep in Mommy's spot, with my head on her pillow. I keep it warm for her! When she comes to bed, I usually move to the pillow above her head or the pillow next to her and snooze for awhile. At some point during the night/early morning I make my way to the top of my favorite cat tree and snooze and watch the pigeons!
****Sophie is the primary exception to my daily routine******
If Sophie is awake and moving around in the house, no matter what time of day or night it is, I always run to her to see what she's doing! I give her lots of bonks and licks and follow her around! When she's in the backyard, I'm waiting at the sliding glass door. When she wants to come in, I meow at Mommy to tell her to let the dog in! If Sophie goes up the stairs, I run up there with her. When she goes down the stairs, I'm right on her heels! I LOVE my dog!!!
Now I want to know what a day in YOUR life looks like! If you want to play, please post in your diary and then tag as many of your friends as you would like or you can leave it as an open tag, whatever you want to do! You can use my daily outline or write you own any way you want- just tell us what you do all day and night!
I'm going to tag some friends but please don't feel left out ~ Anycat that wants to play is invited!!!
Currently, the top banner on Catster is an incredibly obnoxious campaign ad for an Arizona politician that my mommy can't stand. His campaign ad has been there all day, following me no matter where I go in Catsterland! I've never seen a political ad on Catster. I think it must be a regional ad since it's for an Arizona campaign. Plus it's just so obnoxious (much like the canidate it's representing). Ugh.
Please Catster, no political ads while I'm strolling through Catsterland!
I don't know if it's because my mom grew up with dogs and because she's taken care of Sophie for so many years, but she's got a habit that's bugging me! When I'm in the litterbox, doing my business, my mom always says things like, "Good girl! Good girl, Lucy!" She does it to the boys, too. And of course, she says that to Sophie when ever Sophie potties outside. It makes sense with Sophie- she's a dog and dogs need praise and need to be reminded of how good they are when they potty outside. Sophie loves it and always wags her tail (when she's done pottying, of course!).
But me? I'm not a dog, I'm a cat! I'd prefer to be left alone when I'm in the box doing my business! Sure, mom can praise me and give me lovings when I'm bonking her or sitting next to her, but leave me alone when I'm in the box! It's distracting! She says she can't help it, it's a reflex. Whatever!
P.S. My beautiful friend Mai-Lin is very sick. She has a rare condition and her vet and the vet specialist who saw her don't think that they can help her. Her family is so worried and are facing the most difficult decision. Please purr for this sweet girl and her family. If you have any ideas on where she might be able to get help or ideas on how they can make her life more comfortable, please read her thread in the Health Forum: Mai-Lin- Major and Serious Health Problem.
