Arrival Story:
I work at a pet store, and a guy came into the store carrying a box that had the tiniest kitten in it. He said it was born wild (and indeed, it hissed, spit, and scratched at every one who peeked into the box, even though it was barely old enough to walk) and he had agreed to take it in and care for it. He bought some kitten formula, a bottle, and some kitten de-flea spray (the poor thing was covered in fleas). Well, towards closing he came back. Apparently his resident cat had some murderous feelings towards the kitten, and he didn't feel safe keeping the kitten in the same house. I agreed to take the baby, along with the supplies he had bought earlier, and I took the little guy home.

Bio:
I bottle-fed the kitten for the first week that I had him (including midnight feedings), and then began moving him on to wet kitten food and soggy kibble. The kitten appeared to be about 4 weeks old, or maybe 5, at that point, and I figured it was probably appropriate. Well, the kitten took to wet food immediately. Also, when I first got the kitten it could walk a bit, but it was a bit wobbley and certainly hadn't progressed to running. After a week or so the kitten began to develop into what I recognized more and more as a normal kitten--no more fleas (thanks to the flea spray and combing), eating solid and wet food, beginning to play and scamper around, a few clumsy falls from furniture, etc. He had also stopped hissing at people, he stopped his feral attitudes only a couple days after we brought him home. At a little over 8 weeks we gave Radar his first dose of Advantage (seeing as by this point he was readily going outside to play in the yard). Also, around this time we realized the "he" might actually be a "she." So, she was actually very good about going outside. We typically leave the doors open in our house when we're home, and so Radar started by sitting on the top step and looking out over the yard, then eventually worked her way down to the bottom step, playing in the leaves, and then out into the yard, darting from bush to bush. Although she's about 3 months old now she still has a vicious streak when it comes to toes. I started calling her "Monster" when she was just a baby because she would absolutely maul feet! She's getting a bit better now, and has learned to try to be gentler, but those late-night walks in darkness to the bathroom can still be a little treacherous. She's not a vocal cat at all, and only meows when she's stuck somewhere she doesn't want to be (i.e. in the office where we have closed her while we're moving stuff in or out of the basement.. we don't want her going in there) or if she thinks she's about to be stepped on. She also doesn't purr much, and she has a quiet purr.. what's truly funny is when she's in one of her murderous moods and it absolutely terrorizing our feet or hands and we pick her up to make her stop and find that she's purring. She really does look on her own rough-housing as bonding, and apparently a certain level of affection, lol. Similarly, when she's happy to see you she'll give you a gentle bite on the hand when you pet her, kind of her way of saying "hello". She really is a sweet and amusing cat, and my dad (who is not a cat person) is rather impressed with the quality of cat we have. Not to mention it's just wonderfully hilarious to watch her play with Pepper (our older dog), now that she's getting bigger she's started trying to tackle him, lol. (Don't worry, he loves playing with her just as much as she loves playing with him). She'll sleep with Buddy, our younger dog, on occassion (a habit she began as a kitten, when she'd curl up next to his neck), but other than that they pretty much ignore each other.
